Burlesque in Dallas

I leave early morning for Dallas tomorrow for my burlesque show at the Lakewood Theatre. How magical would it be to have lights like those installed into my suitcase? Packing will be a challenge as I have to bring two costumes, stage makeup, stockings, heels, all the appropriate burlesque essentials, gloves, dresses, and fun accessories.

Burlesque! Burlesque! Burlesque!

I have yet another fantastic show with the fabulous Jigglewatts this evening at 501 Studios.   It's once again time to pack up my burlesque suitcase with stockings, corsets, heels, and pasties. I will sip a little wine, dawn my periwinkle and chocolate plaid Betsey Johnson dress, slip on my leopard heels, and fill my vintage seashell beaded clutch.  I love this life.

A week of traveling, costuming, performing, cooking, and enjoying.

Fall officially blew in through my windows this morning and so accordingly I  scurried around my house cleaning every inch of it. I did what I did as a child, I set an alarm in hopes that I will have finished cleaning by the time it sounds. It worked. I then headed straight for Central Market to buy some crisp apples, beautiful vegetables, Belgian ale, and a delicious pork shoulder to braise for dinner. It was important for me to all of these things as this week entails a lot of work.
1. Practice my routine for my burlesque performance on Tuesday. 2. Alter my costume for my show in Dallas at the Lakewood Theatre on Friday. 3. Make contact with the magazine editor so that I am able to take the position as crafts writer. 4. Perform in Dallas on Friday. 5. Schedule the next three weeks so I can fit in PR work. 6. Pay quarterly taxes. 7. Put dinner on the table so my husband is taken care of despite my busy schedule.
Some of this is fabulous, some is comforting but above all I have to remember to…

Glamour Time

I have a show tonight with the fabulous Jigglewatts so it is time to put curlers in my hair, get a manicure and pedicure, pick out a wonderful vintage dress, and get glamorous! I am ready for shimmery eye shadows, body glitter, and deep red lipstick.

Costume inspiration

I am in love with these abundant layers of tulle. The "sugar bee" act is inspired by this dress as well as a Gucci mannequin in Nordstrom's. The mustard golds, buttery yellows, and deep blacks accented by lines and dots will look stunning in stage lighting. Saturday and Tuesday's shows are rockabilly themed so the skirt will be cropped and playful. However for the Animal Benefit on October 15th, I want to bring more elegance to the piece. Hence this gorgeous, long dress and petticoat.

Indulge

Love the gold touches, the fur at the foot of the bed, the wispy curtains... After a very long couple of days doing wedding flowers, I am allowing myself to relax and indulge. Vanilla ice cream, a hot cup of English tea (made by an English visitor,) remnants of hydrangeas and freesia, and a French quilt.

Thursday

cup of coffee, strawberries and yogurt, favorite blogs, flower dress, jeep cherokee, aesthetic fruits, fresh flowers, beautiful lake, organize tools, dinner party...

A busy week

This week has already been extraordinarily busy and will become increasingly so. Thanks to Cassandra at Coco + Kelly, I am reminded that I should approach all of it with a glamorous frame of mind. After all what I am doing this week is undeniably fabulous. The lakehouse will provide a beautiful view while I create arrangements, so I really couldn't ask for more.
                  To do:
                       1. Do burlesque/modeling interview for Five b Pin Ups
                       2. Pick up the fruits, vegetables, and flowers from the wholesaler
                       3. Take all supplies and flowers out the lakehouse for set up
                       4. Create all arrangements for the Meazell wedding
                       5. Meet with photographer at wedding location for set up and flower photo session

Monday

Relaxing after a long day of performance promo, graphic design, floral locations, and printing. Fluffy pillows, champagne, pink asters by the bedside, and of course luxurious bedding.
Accomplished today: 1. Finished graphic design of promo envelope 2. Joined the pinup lifestyle network 3. Designated floral design areas at the Lakehouse 4. Printed 150 shipping labels

romanticism

The Louis Vuitton fall collection speaks to every glamorous bone in my body.  It's the burlesque dancer's ideal image of backstage. The gold damask chairs, framed stage mirrors, boxes of shoes emerging from tissue paper. It's the moment after the performance, the doning of an exquisite dress, silky gloves, and devine purse

Plush textures, pears, and rain

It's the end of summer, the beginning of fall. Time to add transitional touches of chocolates, masculine features, plush heavy textures, and seasonal delicious delights. It's time I bid adieu to summer as my little Texas town is already gray covered and rain slick.  I must admit...fall is my favorite season!

Accomplished already this week:
1. Put the flower order in for the Meazell Wedding
2. Made the poster for the Kimmie Rhodes Christmas Tour
3. Cleaned and prepared my home for my Mother-in-Law's stay
4. Organized and inventoried all burlesque costumes
5. Decided on songs for the Dallas Lakewood Theatre Burlesque show in October
6. Made homemade coffee cake muffins (I can't seem to stop eating the left over streusel. My burlesque body's demise will be streusel...)
