A Blessed Thanksgiving

It's been a morning to be thankful for with homemade pumpkin spice bread hot
from the oven, hot cups of coffee, and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade,
all of it shared with my family of course. I figured I would list all of the things
I am thankful for but frankly I find this morning that it's more enjoyable to
exclaim them throughout my day instead. This morning my husband and I
have been having our own moments of saying what silly things we are
thankful for (and we decided that our weenie dog is thankful for the
                  dog fight she witnessed down below our balcony.) However I will say this;

I have a very blessed life despite the hardships of this and the past year and I
am thankful for the strength to get through it, the strength to persue my dreams,
and for God, my family and friends.

"Our Father, for this day and our blessings, we offer to Thee our thanks. Amen." - The
prayer my Great Grandfather always said. Indeed DaddyPop, indeed.

what a fabulous show...

I performed last night at the Spanksgiving Burlesque Festival and I have to admit,
I am exhausted. I love this editorial photo because it really captures the spirit
of what a performer feels like after a show. I tend to become half a performer,
half a human being dressed in pajamas, wrapped in a fur, still in stockings,
makeup a little melted, selective jewelry off, a few pieces still on.
It's as if the transition from diva to person is a slow one out of necessity.
As if a rapid transition might just be too jarring.

I Want Everything in This Editorial Part {One}

This editorial has everything I could ever want in my fall/winter wardrobe. It's a rather large editorial and as I don't like to post huge posts, it's going to happen in a few parts. A few delicious fashion tastes at a time my darlings!

Loving {red nails, black clutch, belted fluffy atomic age inspired prints, Betty bangs meets veronica lake hair, dark scarlet lips, beaded top, gray purse, swing skirts, delicate watch, thick but light brows}

with old friends

Tonight is the wedding of one of my oldest friends at one of the most beautiful
hotels in Austin. Elizabeth and I were on dance team together and have been
avid fans of brunches ever since.  It's going to be a glamorous, yet challenging
evening for me as I will be singing jazz at thereception! It's a wonderful
opportunity to wear some of my favorite jewelry & my beautiful sequined
blue mermaid cut gown. I look forward to sipping some champagne, eating delicious food,
and celebrating a very beautiful union between two people I love with old friends.

Sunday I have the honor of doing a guest performance at the East Austin
Studio Tour. I will have a little burlesque moment to top off my lovely
weekend.

Venue:1138 Gunther St.
Date:Saturday, November 13
Event:EAST JIVE! Outside!

Have a fabulous weekend! xo, Jolie

Gardenia looks lovely!

I'd venture so far as to say that I accomplished a lot yesterday and hopefully the results will prove me correct. I've decided to give my Gardenia blog a makeover, to approach it in a different way. I felt it was time I put my graphic design skills to use as well as the numerous images I have stored in my scrapbooks and tumblr. Being the social Mrs. that I am, I love parties and events. It's more than just the socializing itself, but the details that go into parties and weddings, that make an event truly special. Given than I'm a bit of a Mrs. Perfection, the little niceties are something I happen to be in love with.

That said, I've teamed up with Erica Kuschel of Over Yonderlust, to make Gardenia a collective website for inspiration. Considering she is a photographer and I am a florist, between the two of us there is a lot of inspiration floating around our heads. Gardenia will hopefully prove to be a platform not only for our own work, but also for the works of those artists and planners that we admire. Enjoy!

Gardenia - Daily Wedding and Event Inspiration

With all of that out of the way, I have to pay attention to the details of this office. I've always been a fan of stark, or serious, colors with elegant hardware. The black desk and bureau give just enough austerity to a room that is otherwise light and airy. And the pineapple lamp? yes please! Since my old 1950s desk fell to pieces, my husband and I have been on a hunt for a desk we both love. Unfortunately the confines of an apartment make finding a grandiose desk that will fit into our space very difficult. We eventually settled for a desk that we like but do not love, making a promise to each other that someday when we have a house, we will buy the desk of our dreams...

Veterans - Thank You

To all my veteran friends and family - Thank you for your service to our
country. You are true blessings to us all and I will be forever
grateful to your precious service. It was an honor to be a Marine Corps
wife, to be a part of the military life, simply because I got to see how
special our service men and women really are. Thank you, thank you,
thank you.

tournee

A yearning for Paris seems to be trending these days, as I consistently find myself in
casual conversations with people about the desire to be in Paris. What is it about
November that makes Paris seem even more travel-worthy than usual? For me it's
the sensual; the tinkling of coffee cups, the melodic hum of chatter, the sandwich of
charcol blue rooftops between gray buildings and grey skies, the view of the bakers
basking in the light of the bakery early in the morning and the smell that follows.
The early glimpses of a Parisian burlesque mini-tour are flickering in my imagination...

A bit slap dash

I have so much work to do that it's all at once overwhelming and titillating! It's a glamorous kind of busy; a dress fitting, pattern shopping, and a burlesque meeting. This weekend I am singing jazz at my dear friend's wedding and I have the honor to wear a beautiful blue sequined gown that after today I will fit like a glove! Additionally, I have a Christmas show coming up and this is my opportunity to have a Christmas Barbie gown of my very own. That's the thing about burlesque....it's really just an extension of playing Barbie. Accordingly, my bedroom looks a bit like this right now. It's a bit slap dash with clothes draped over furniture, coffee cups over the morning's reading, the linens haphazardly pulled up...
