A Very 1940s Christmas!

The Goodnight jazz band and household are preparing for a very 1940s Christmas! So many rehearsals, pages of sheet music, lyrics to learn!
Come celebrate the season the 1940s way --- Jolie Goodnight & Her Jazz Band "Holiday Soiree" The Brass House / December 13th 9:00pm
xo, Jolie

Jolie Goodnight's Big Holiday Show!

Chime the bells and grab a hot toddy, Jolie Goodnight & Her Jazz Band are undeniably jolly! Saturday December 13th they’ll jazz up the jingle, sing your favorite festive tunes, (what would the holidays be with out a lady who croons?) Pull out your winter finery and shimmy to the Brass House, bring your friends, bring your dance partner, why even your spouse!

A two part yuletide swingin’ show, at 9:00pm “Merrymaking and Mistletoe” – a celebration for jingling and mingling, vintage enthusiasm, sleigh bells and singing.
At 11:00pm once you’re “Tipsy and Toasty” we’ll swing songs spirited, sparkling and definitely smoky. What fun it is to sing and drink a cocktail or ten tonight, Oh!

Want to enjoy a night full of holiday hooray? Come to both parts of the show - mark your calendar so you don’t miss a beat, seeing part one AND part two would certainly be a holiday treat!

We’ve whipped up some Christmas musical magic, to miss this holiday bash would be tragic! Sing one, si…

Doxies Always Win}

I really wanted, nay needed, to get work done today, but apparently it is a stay-on-the-couch- with-weenie-dogs kind of day. These lovely little idiots. They are sick and so, in classic  doxie mama fashion --- they win.
See y'all tomorrow xo, Jolie

{ Our first Saturday Jazz Social & Adventures with Ruby Joule ///

What a marvelous weekend & beginning of the week this has been! Firstly, thank you to all of you who came out to the Jigglewatts Burlesque Revue  Show and to the first Jolie Goodnight & Her Stardust Band "Saturday Social" and the East Side Showroom. Both shows were a big hit and both audiences were the top!
Secondly, thank you to all of you who voted for The Jigglewatss as the best burlesque revue in Austin! We really appreciate you!
And now for some notes: 1. I really do think our first Saturday Social was a great success! - a fun laughing, dancing, singing audience. What a joy to have made so many new friends & fans! It really felt like we went back to the 40s for a night. Please join us for our next social :: October 25th at the Satellite Bistro  & Bar. More details to come!
2. Ruby Joule and I showed up to the Austin Chronicle's Best of Austin  Party Tuesday evening in matching outfits. For those of you who get us mixed up, or for those of you wh…

{Autumn Playlist} Great tunes for the new season!

As the daughter of an old Austin DJ (Joe Gracey) I can't help but desire to match music to my life. Why not have a soundtrack to my daily activities? While the days slowly & gradually cool with the changing season, "the days grow short when you reach September...and the autumn weather turns leave to flame" --- I love listening to songs about falling leaves, cups of coffee, autumn weather, and the like. Assuming you too would like to have a playlist by which to enjoy your pumpkin spiced coffee and apple butter, I'm sharing my playlist with you!

Note ///* I will always and forever encourage you to actually buy the music you listen to. I do understand however that times are changing and spotify &; grooveshark are great ways to discover new music (no matter how much I may resist.) With that understanding, if you find yourself loving these tunes and playing them often, please please my darling, purchase them. I am therefore including the buy link for each song on…

Top 10 Autumn Anticipations : No. 1 ///

In the “Letter From the Editor” of Vogue, she lists her Autumnal Anticipations, and while I fully love the idea of starting “every autumn in a new Prada coat” and “runway-side the New York collections” I realize that for many of us that is not possible and for us vintage enthusiasts not always fitting to our lifestyle. Her list entails 10 lovely anticipations, so I’ve decided to custom tailor a list for my readers (yes, you!) based roughly on her top ten with my own pin up glamorous twist!
And while I initially anticipated doing the top ten all at once, my love for Autumn has caused me to need to divide this list into one anticipation per week.

No. 1 {       I’m delighted to see how many vintage repro furs are popping up all over my instagram feed. Feeling forever trapped in a DKNY style coat world, it is fantastic to find our favorite vintage repro designers are jumping on the 1940s coat bandwagon. Here are my favorites from Miss Candyfloss:

It is never too early to find your winte…

{the last bit of summer & mermaids}

Let's enjoy the last little while of summer, shall we?...
Had a wonderful, grand, endlessly busy time at Tiki Oasis and on our annual summer tour, and while anticipating autumn with all excitement, still willing to admit this summer has been dreamy.
Thank you to all of the fabulous sparkly people I met along the way -- all of  the producers, patrons, and performers who make my life such a joy to live!

Currently inspired by {Summer treasures}

Over the weekend we had a birthday party with friends, successful food and celebrations, {taco party!} birthday gifts galore for Husband. Then Saturday --- stage lights, live theatre, and a standing ovation after our show!  A beautiful end to the weekend, Sunday, just the pups &; us relaxing and happy.

But now, on the verge of a tour, there is much to do! Tonight, burlesque meeting - Wednesday jazz rehearsal then more rehearsals at night - Thursday {hair and nails thank goodness} - Friday burlesque show - Saturday jazz show - Sunday...

hopefully, not one thing, but summer treasures.

A Studio Photo Shoot }

A few weeks ago I had the absolute pleasure of shooting with Jme Lacombe of Cherry Bones Photography --- the kind of lovely & inspirational experience for which every model/performer/dreamer hopes. Desiring to capture the aesthetic version of my debut record (that is to say music as a visual,) we shot in the studio, Sunbird Studios, where my record was recorded.
What an evening! Shooting into the night --- using pianos, mics and other studio treasures... There are many many more photos to share of course, but those are secretly hidden away until they can make their debut.

I've arrived in Frace {and now for tour updates}

Finally now in France! Now that I have arrived to my little home, I'll do a  little back tracking to let you in on some of my adventures on tour! I can't wait to tell you all about our wonderful time singing, traveling, eating, driving....

{Spring Fling}

The charming first hints of spring are arriving -- bright green little leaves on the trees in my front yard, breezes just barely warm enough for windows to be wide open...and luckily I will be able to celebrate spring in style again this year.
Last year I had the pleasure of performing at my first annual, "Spring Fling" (see last year's details here&; this year somewhat coincidentally, I will be taking part of another "Spring Fling" show, only this time in a theatre & this time with burlesque beauties.

I hope to see you there! xo, Jolie

{Of Chicago & Austin}

It's impossible to document all the activity that's happened, rushing around from snowy places to romantically beautiful sunny places --- what a life!

Chicago firstly, et moi feeling so completely blessed to have had such a fantastic audience (and a fabulously talented impromptu band as well) in a lovely theatre {& we were happily met with a standing ovation.) And while Chicago? Two photoshoots, both completely different from one another.

(1) Vavoom Pinups - a cheery, silly, cheesecake shoot during which Heather made me feel so happy and comfortable. One of my best shoot experiences to date.
(2) Paul Natkin - a roll n' roll photographer extraordinaire & an absolute honor to have shot with such a rockstar

...all of this during a week of best friends, brunch, dinners, and more happiness than I could really ask for.

Secondly, back home to Austin in the bon vivant spirit of love (& multi-tasking) rehearsal & a show with yet another fantastic audience. And thou…

{after arriving in Chicago}

Since leaving Austin, my life has been the greatest whirlwind & although exhausted, there is something I love about showgirl insanity. Friday I performed in Austin, dashed afterward to eat with the girls, rushed (sans sleep) to the airport, where I applied all the necessary warmth layers for Chicago --- chevron hose, a loose dress, a wool sweater, and my Godmother's fur coat.

...and after arriving, it's been trains (luckily embarked with the help of kind strangers,) brunch with precious, dear old friends {roasted cauliflower & pimento omlette with cornbread and cocktails} // next an adventure to an old apartment where I could see the beautiful snow flakes and blankets of snow on the streets below. Next, spiritual happiness after playing in the snow and attending mass at a beautifully gilded old church.
I hope your week is blessed and graceful, and for those of you who live in snow covered places --- remember to enjoy it! xo, Jolie

{to Chicago!}

...My heavens what a day this has already been and will be! Lots to do, show tonight, then catching the red-eye to Chicago...
Happy Friday! xo, Jolie

{new music & new inspiration}

Aren't these photos absolutely lovely? I highly reccomend following @luxuryandopulance on instagram, a new discovery after a comment on my instagram.
 It's a bit of a scattered Tuesday for me, being that there is so much to do and there are so many little things to share. I've come to so many realizations and conclusions already this week, following...
{1} The Grammys - I'm completely inspired & know what to do next {2} Last night's rehearsal with a new endeavor (more news soon I promise!...let's just say I played a tambourine for the first time in my life & another hint, the evening was rather soulful) {3} Hearing myself on BBC Radio on a playlist with Jamie Cullum {listen here} Many thanks to John Hellings!
Have a happy week! xo, Jolie

{On waters}

Now and again it's essential for me to reconnect with nature, to replenish sources much depleted, to look at sunshine and waters rather than contracts and emails. & That's just what I did yesterday and I'm a better person for it. And now! -- something extraordinary has come from it, a next step, some courage, and some happiness!

Do yourself a favor and spend some time out in the world this week. xo, Jolie

{Valentine Cabaret Starring Jolie Goodnight and Her Stardust Band} --Indulge this Valentine's Weekend with Jolie Goodnight and Her Stardust Band for the second annual "Valentine Cabaret." Each of her songs has a story to be shared and she'll expose even more to you, as she becomes unlaced. Be embraced, have a taste, and fall in love with Jolie Goodnight Saturday February 15th.
