Certainly a cause for celebration, yesterday was the first day of the photo shoot for my debut album.

Currently wishing I could show you all the insanely beautiful photos taken in an insanely positive &

happy atmosphere...let's just say, you're going to love them!

Still on cloud nine, despite my busy schedule for the day, it is hard not to be distracted & inspired by

the smell of paper whites and hyacinth, crisp wooden shutters on neighborhood windows...

...pretty light coming piercing the room (I'm a sucker for pretty lighting.)

But there is no time to linger! Coffee, tea, coffee, blog, pack, errands, emails, costumes, phone calls,

nails, hair, rhinestones & dinner date.

It all has to be done before I leave for the Southwest Burlesque Showcase this weekend!

A wonderfully effervescent woman, Ginger is a stunning vision in blue. So what items could be fit for a queen? For locks that make the entire world envious, a wild brush to keep them seriously slinky! An arbiter of writing, a blingy pen is necessary of course. (You can't expect the queen to use a basic bic can you?) Watch her perform and she'll play games with your heart, but this lovely lady plays other games as well! A deck of cards, dominoes...she's up to the task! She'll need decadent fine china to eat her hubbie's scrumptious meals. But don't expect this royalty to prove lazy, this sunshine-y lady loves to work out! One of my absolute favorite things to do while embellishing costumes is
to watch the red carpet. As a singer, it's of course a dream of mine to one
day walk the Grammy's red carpet...not simply for the prestige and honor
but for the fun! For the ensemble! For the dashingly well dressed party
occurring! The SAG awards are always fun to watch because of the attitude
of not only the attendees, but also the garments. Even the most glam of
choices are also playful.

What were your favorite choices of the night? Think I'm totally crazy

Surprise surprise! A fabulous new feature, the Miss Burlesque Style Series, is the latest weekly addition. Though La Maisonette de Jolie traditionally follows the adventures of moi, those adventures wouldn't be nearly as fabulous without the stunning ladies (and men) I encounter and work with! These dazzling dames (and fellas) featured weekly inspire me, titillate me, and encourage me in all my endeavors!

The first featured performer is none other than, the electrifying Coco Lectric! She's a close friend and woman dear to my heart, a woman both fierce and bold. What's not to love about that? The busiest woman I know, she's bound to need; gold headphones for her groovin' tunes, a colossal purse for her every item, sexy sunnies, and a superbly slinky leopard dress of course to wear on the plane! She has a passion for Prince, a preference of the playful (hence the boa,) and a propensity for honey scents. This should come as no surprise --- as she's a woman marvelously exotic!

{Mint + Luxe}

Let me start off by saying that when I saw the Elie Saab Spring 2012 collection,

I gasped so intensly at every dress that my miniature doxies were worried about

me...

That said...I am in L-O-V-E with all the mint I'm seeing this season. Mint is

the perfect color to transition from winter to spring. It has the chilly nuances

of mint chocoate chip ice cream, but the grace of a new spring day. Mint has

the kind of sex appeal that comes only from the combination of decadence, luxe,

and strength. I think I'm sensing a new costume color on the horizon...

There are so many ways to incorporate mint. What's your favorite?

want for clothing this week. It's prep week, so it's

time to perfect each routine needed for Febuary, to

take great care of my body for photoshoots, to take

each costume to the next level, and to run all the

errands a girl could run in one week! And somewhere

between all that are meetings and social outings...

So what better wardrobe could I ask for than the

deceptively simple elegance of Antonio Berardi's

Spring 2012 line? I would happy start the day in

a soft peach mini dress, coffee in hand, leather

boho bag filled with items for the post office.

covered in all of this. My newest act is a revamp of an old act, a recreation

of something that deserves attention. My inspiration? The sea, Greek goddesses,

moments of encrusted pearls, fluidity, the glamour of the 70s...and of course

the man himself, James Brown. This is a man's world, but it wouldn't be

nothing without.....

Tonight I'm preping for my album artwork photoshoot and it's been

an absolutely joy. Like every showgirl should, I'm tremendously over

packing. On the duvet of my bed you'll find furs, pearls, sequins, &

rhinestones amongst gowns, corsets, stockings, eyelashes, glitter, & gold.

It's a showgirl assortment! It's been a day filled with day dreams &

visions...visions that are lucky enough to be fulfilled. You can bet

that tomorrow will end with a ceremonial pop! of a cork.

An Extraordinary Year

Tomorrow I plan to post my goals for the New Year, however I figured in order to

look forward, it's essential that I look at all I accomplished in the past. This year

has been extraordinary in many ways. My career has taken new heights, soaring

above and beyond that which I imagined. And thank goodness it did, because the true

blessings of my career have helped to balance the devestation I've felt from the

process of watching my father suffer from cancer and cancer treatments, and

the extreme sadness that came from his passing. Of course, the beginning of a new

year doesn't mean my greiving has subsided, however it does mean that I can

begin a new chapter. That I can begin this year with a bigger, sweeter, more

thoughtful, and more caring heart. I can be grateful for each accomplishment

this year in a new way. Life is truly precious, and I intend to treat it as such.

while sewing. Yesterday, I was pleased to run across the documentary

made about the fabulously talented photographer Annie Leibovitz. And

while I'm usually filled with words, I find Annie's work speaks for itself.

I highly suggest perusing through this great artist's work. It's the perfect

I know I've posted many more inspirational images than my usual three, however I am
completely obsessed with the Spring 2012 line from Alice + Olivia. And how could I not
be? It's sherbert colors make me excited for spring; for daffodils, spring vegetables, pool
side mint juleps, bare legs, and cool breezes. It's great when designers create a line that
truly encourages fantasy in real life. These clothes don't just look wearable, they give the
impression that you'll feel more fabulous in them. And isn't that what every showgirl wants?

US describes perfectly the past two days...minutes spent on the telephone

searching for velvet drapes, photo shoots being scheduled, musical rehearsals

planned, a quick bite of tuna with vinegar and tomatoes...my red hair becoming

wilder by the second. And after a long day at work, drinks with my husband &

dear friends are inevitable (if not necessary.)

I'm loving the casual attitude of these ensembles. Chic and somewhat fancy

items are put together with an easy-going attitude...as if one would hurridly

tie a fur around one's waist, slump a pink coat over pink slacks and a pink

blouse, pull back the sleeves of a camel coat and dig into work!

Choosing the tunes for the record...

Yesterday was an exciting day indeed! We listened to and chose the tracks

for my record, carefully selecting the best take of each lovely jazz tune. It

at times seemed like an impossible task, each song having its own magic

and splendor. How to choose one special moment over another? One by

one, in the olivine and pink light spilling through the stained glass windows,

we choose the best of the best. Next step, layering magic upon magic upon

A sparkling and shimmering day

After having a much needed day with friends yesterday, everything feels a bit

refreshed. "Today is the first day of the rest of your life," so to speak. What

a blessing to spend the day day dreaming with the fabulous Mandy Lauderdale.

You won't believe what we've dreamed up! {Let's just say our fans will be

joyous.} Still feeling the excitement of yesterday's endeavors, today it's a

ladies luncheon, then taking the time to buy meaningful gifts for the ones I

To Have Your Gracious Love

After taking time off to grieve and to reflect, life is returning to an even

more graceful place. Today was my first day back at work, and though

tedious, it was a joy to answer emails, to say "yes" to upcoming gigs,

to schedule the rest of my life to come. All of this was thankfully &

marvelously followed by an effortless photoshoot...a shoot of glamour,

golden glimpses of shimmering sequins, beaded feather headdresses,

and encouraging women. And after, cocktails and gourmet burgers with

my darling husband and sweet mother.

I'd like to take a moment to thank all of you for your kind emails

and for your relentless support after the passing of my father. It

means the world to me to have your gracious love.

Grieving

Terribly sorry I've been missing for so long. Maisonette will return after I have

been able to sufficiently grieve the loss of my father, Joe Gracey, to cancer. It's

been a long courageous road, and it's worth spending the remainder of this hard

journey with my family and friends.

After a seemingly endlessly busy week of shows, emails, scheduling, appointments,

and meetings, we were sure to appreciate Sunday to its fullest. My husband and I

spent the day enjoying the damp leaves and humid air by walking around our new

neighborhood. Accompanied by our two prancing, sniffing, inquisitive dachshunds,

we pointed out the homes we love and the yards we admire, daydreaming about the

home we one day hope to own. Wrapped in a blue cotton scarf holding the hand of

the man I love, with leaves crunching beneath my feet, viewing the first glipses of

fall, we relished the day away.

Life has taken a turn for the even better, becoming a more

gentle and gracious chapter. I've been up to fun things (more

details to be shared next week,) projects with other artists,

planning fresh starts with creative peers, envisioning the

flowers for a childhood friend's wedding...it's all very dreamy,

surreal in a way. I feel very lucky in a way, to have found

myself in a week of forgiveness, new beginnings, love &

tenderness, creativity, epiphanies, and positivity. I hope

your weekend finds itself full of grace and happiness!

{Fall Obsession} Terrain Harvest Items

As much as I adore my usual format for Maisonette, my current

Autumn obsessions have caused me to branch out a bit. I find it

impossible to refrain from sharing with you all of my fall finds.

My favorite part of Terrain's fall aesthetic, is its masculine

qualities and feminine romantic tendencies. Don't worry, I haven't

abandoned my overly glamorous style, I've simply always been

in love with masculine details. Leather, large gold zippers, brass

buttons. These pieces are all simultaneously chic and utilitarian.

{Overtly Autumn styling}

I am undoubtedly excited that fall fashion has been including some unexpected

colors this season, however I have to admit that I will always crave the more

overtly "autumn" styling as well. I can't help but love the rust colored pumps &

moody polka dotted black on black pencil skirt paired with a slate blousy top.

I like the cheeky qualities of the tightly fitted Nordic sweater and the pumpkin

and gingham combination. They are unabashedly fall: one being a cliche of prep

autumn & winter wear, the other the typical color scheme of Halloween. Also

important, is the billowy back to school look...a mustard "grandpa" cardigan

accompanied by powder blue pleats. These garments are all classics for a

reason. They recall certain memories, that I think for most are pleasant:

{new school supplies, a plastic orange pumpkin, stormy nights, & harvest festivals)

They are nostalgic in a way that isn't too kitsch and is therefore

sublimely chic.

It comes as no surprise to me that I'm a bit sick this week, as I'm very much due for some R +R. Let's recount what I've been up to the past two weeks:

3. {The New Orleans Burlesque Festival (shows, parties, little sleep)}

I think it's safe to say that Mrs. Goodnight needs some much needed recovery time. Though I promise, details about the adventures listed will be posted soon! Just, allow me to get over this cold...

The week to begin settling into our new home has finally arrived

and I couldn't be more excited. As I move our beloved things into

the place, I can't help but imagine how beautiful it will be. This

morning will be spent, coffee in hand, outside with the sunrise,

imagining how I will carefully craft comfort for us, layer by layer.

I've been turning to my collection of images for inspiration and

I've come to the conclusion that "home" exists in the details &

luckily, so does style.

What a lovely weekend! We had a family dinner of rosemary pork chops

covered in a rosé shallot & corn cream sauce, with bacon & blueberry

aspargus. It was the perfect dinner with which to bid adieu to summer.

Of course, unfortunately, the temperature outside will still resemble that

of summer, despite the "September" name. I spent a day this weekend

with my niece, coloring pictures of Paris and playing princess. It was

a princess weekend...

And soon, I have really lovely & fun news to share...

{Blending elegant Dior with savage & wild nuances}

I've been diligently working on my next costume, creating layer

after layer. I've been particularly daring this time, choosing

colors, patterns, and textures that are not normally found in

burlesque costumes. It's been a joy to dive into glittered leopard

suede, periwinkle blue soft lace, and plush gold satin. My kitchen

table has become a sort of collage of champagne & orange threads,

crystal rhinestones, leopard accents, vintage gloves, and an array

of snaps and buttons. This costume pays homage to exotica of the 50s,

blending elegant Dior with savage & wild nuances. I'm exploring

what it means to be both ferociously captivating and endearing.

In essence, this costume needs to evoke a certain allure.

In great anticipation of the grandiose closet into which I'm about to move,

I can't stop myself from browsing through numerous photos of closets. Closet

organization could be a daunting task, but once given ample space, it becomes

a romantic task instead. How can I make my closet feel less like a cave-like

storage space, and more like a bedroom? My favorite spaces are adorned with

small vases of seasonal flowers, lamps are placed in perfect places to light up the

space, and shoes are treated like pieces of decor places on sturdy shelves. How

lovely is the bra arrangement? With my bras arranged like this, it will be

difficult to decide which to wear!

The morning was filled with rushing around the house, applying

makeup and ironing vintage dresses for my early 1960s inspired

photoshoot. Most of the day was brisk. The photo shoot was swift;

a pop of the champagne into a coup, a snappy decision about hats,

rapid frames of catching the moment, & c'est fini! Next a lively jaunt

to the market to pick up some fresh red snapper, peaches, spinach &

wine...a few delectable staples to replenish the weeks groceries. Later,

errands and cleaning. It's been the opposite of a typical Sunday!

We are preparing for a big move, into a town home in our favorite part of town.

This means it's time to pear down and to edit our belongings so that all that is left

to move are our most beloved treasures. It's quite a daunting task, leaving me

covered in papers, memorabilia, scarves, old costumes, sheets, curtains, remnants

of college dorm life, and magazines. However it's refreshing to throw on a pair of

cotton shorts, put my hair up in a pony tail, throw bags of gently used items into

the back of the pickup truck, and take them to charity. However, my husband and

I are finding it difficult to refrain from buying champgne coups & trying on vintage

sunglasses along the way...

At the end of a long week of sorting, it's an absolute pleasure to pop open a

Shiner Ruby Redbird and read until the end of a satisfying summer book.

Last night I went to Paris...well, not exactly but our Parisienne themed show

went marvelously! However I expended so much energy performing and having

fun, that today I'm a bit under the weather. I want nothing more than to relax

in the soft light of my living room windows, to indulge in some homemade

sweets, to read beneath a summer quilt, and to dine on sweet and special

china. However all of this is the exact opposite of what I need to accomplish

today. I have lines to learn, items to purge for charity, items to sort...

Despite my aversion to summer heat, I'm finding it easy to find pleasure in

occasional dips in the pool, toes submerged in the trickle of a fountain. I

like to find a brief stretch of time during which I can doze off while reading

an adventurous book. But my favorite hour, as the sun tucks slowly away

casting a blue light over everything, is spent walking the pups, reflecting over

the day's accomplishments, over work done marvelously. We walk languidly

back home, to return to the kitchen to finish cooking the evening's meal.

A meal out on the balcony, the smell of candles and water sprinklers on

warm pavement, the taste of a summer ale and fresh fish. It's pure bliss.

Thank you, Roseline of This is Glamorous, for reminding me to relish in

the bits of summer before it slips through our fingers.

Sitting with a glass of vihno verde watching the sun slink behind

lit buildings, it's impossible not to reflect back on the weekend I

just had. It's one of those weekend filled with such fun and happiness

that rather than think of a continuous memory, I'm recalling snippets

of time...Moments of Dita dancing at the party, her face covered by

the lace veil of the Maison Michel bunny ears. Sweet recollections

of conversations held in French with a stunning Russian woman for

need of a common adjective. Genuine connections with a new

friend in love with jazz and rhinestoned lapels...great laughter and

cheer shared of a glass of Perrier Jouet with women I admire

greatly.

Essentially, I am grateful & happy.

It's been the kind of week that makes you turn to your core and try to make

decisions. I have so much running through my head. I've had extraordinary

moments, frustrating ones, sad ones, and ones that made me feel overwhelmed.

I've received advice, hate, love, and companionship. It's been the kind of week

that has caused me to take the morning to breathe and to think. It's had me

thinking, "What are my strengths?" "What are my weaknesses?" How do I

arrive where I want to be without compromising who I am at heart? How do I

best use the advice given to me? How do I make decisions in situations that are

in no way black or white? I want so much out of my life because I'm startlingly

aware of how short it truly can be. What is best for me isn't always what is best

for others. But after living twenty six years of comprimising myself over and over

again, how do I find the balance between taking care of myself and making others

happy? Is that possible? Is it possible for me to make everyone else happy without

ending up railroaded? How do I make sure that the next time I take a step out of

my comfort zone, that it doesn't backfire? I've always taken great care to be a sweet

person, a devoted person, and a giving person. The question here is this: If try to

take care of myself, to stand up for myself, to believe in myself does it make me

selfish? Does it make me some sort of monster? It's unknown territory for me

because I've spent life being absurdly aware of how I make people feel. I've

been called a people-pleaser. Can I be a people-pleaser and a Jolie-pleaser

at the same time? Was it simply time that I made some mistakes along the way?

So today I'm lying around in bed making pivotal decisions, about my career

and not just the path to take to get to where I want to be but how to get there

and who I will be along the way.

{The Golden Hour}

There is a certain part of the day that is my favorite, most call it the
golden hour, I like to call it the "pretty part of the day." During this
hour I drop everything. I take a break from costuming, rehearsing,
or cleaning to open up the balcony door and drink it all in. I love the
way the sun creates a soft golden hue, especially after the harsh light
of summer has felt oppressive all day. And I'm especially enamored
with the teal blue created in shadows, in the sky, over the water, and
between the hills. It's the perfect time to perch on the porch, put my
feet up on the table, pour a glass of gin with a squeeze of lime, and
glace through a magazine.

A Propensity to Pine

During the Summer I find it unusually difficult to get anything done,

mostly because I find myself lost in dreams of all kinds; day dreams,

dreams that come in a deep sleep, dreams from which I am sad to awake.

I'd rather design costumes in my dreams than execute them in real life

& I'd rather put to practice the choreography that comes in the night during

a performance than during rehearsal. I can't seem to overcome lackadaisical

tendencies in order to become productive. This is no surprise, I've always

been this way during Summer. The heat gives me only the desire to submerge

myself in cool waters, to quench my thirst with tart lemonade, and to laze

around in cool baths.

After having a week off from the world of work, this day is designated

to the art of costuming. On the burlesque dancer's work table it's quite

standard to find tufts of tulle tucked beneath waves of shimmering silk,

bundles of thread, taffeta, chiffon. And amongst the array of shining

silver snaps, sparkling indigo rhinestones, and leopard panels you

will surely find a cocktail and bonbons (for purposes of sanity.) These

little accoutrements of sanity are something I learned from my dear

Lady Borgia, the woman who took me under her wing five years ago

and taught me not only the sewing skills every burlesque dancer

should know. From her I learned the necessity of a crisp bar of

chocolate, a fresh cocktail, and a cool breeze blowing through the

windows.

what is more perfect than the smooth creaminess of fresh berry

ice cream? What could be more comforting than the plush smoosh

of feathers in a pillow as you lay your head down? A garden of roses

is filled with velvet petals, curling with delicacy and tenderness.

A fresh breeze blowing through an open window, the carefree splash

of water on thirsty skin, the caress of pink cotton towels hugging you.

It all happens as if it was designed to say, "It's okay. You're okay."

I must apologize for my absence, it's been an extraordinarily busy couple of

weeks! The start of the week has been filled with visits to the flower wholesaler.

It's lovely to step into the crisp, cold, sweet rooms picking out fluffy roses, peonies

that look like party dresses, and fragrant freesia. It's been a week of popping into

little local cafes for a bite to eat and refreshing iced tea. And afterward...a perfect

welcome home by my darling husband and sweet little prancing Dachshunds as I

set the keys down and walk into a sunny entry way. And later...a glass of champagne,

feathers, rhinestones, and a great movie.

I've been having days filled with daydreams and inspiring

conversations with good friends, moments of clarity and sweet

melodies. Constantly working to make dreams come true so that

day dreams and become day realities. Currently reading and

listening to stories of successful people, being inspired by the

joys of synchronicity and the bliss of finding yourself in the exact

place you always pictured yourself in. Do you ever want so much

for yourself that it's almost bittersweet? Do you ever lie in the sun

and find yourself full of hope, so full of hope in fact that you know

there is no other option but to make your dreams come true?

I'm so joyous to be living the life I am living and I want nothing

but to create more happiness, to connect with music in this way,

What a fabulous birthday! My special day held beautifully

wrapped packages filled with wonderful surprises, much

needed rain pouring from the sky, strawberry short cake,

flutes of champagne, cassoulet shipped from a special source,

a joyful dinner party with my giant family, a new dacshund

puppy, and sweet messages sent from fans, peers, friends, and

family.

Why does a charge disrupt the varying mystic?

Sadly the weather is becoming increasingly hotter. Spring is fading as

mild nights turn into warm and balmy dusk. Admittedly summer is not my

favorite season. It lacks the charm of spring, the enchantment of winter, the

bittersweet chill of autumn. However this blog does not serve for complaints

but rather for romanticism. As I've done before, I aim to romanticize summer,

to figure out summer's qualities that entice me. What do I have to look forward

to?

Blissful moments laying on a boat being rocked gently by the waves of the

lake. Avocados, tomatoes, cilantro muddled in a molcajete to make fresh

guacamole. Trips to the farmer's market, basket in hand, filled with colorful

summer vegetables. Chilled watermelon, dripping with juices, eaten out on

the front porch at sunset. Cotton dresses kept cool in the freezer. Cockatils

made with fresh fruit and herbs from the garden. Stone fruit plump with sugar

inside of a flaky pie crust. Days on floats in the pool, hands splashing water

now and then to cool off. Stacks of books ready for summer reading

lackadaisically in a hammock. Floating down the river with an ice cold

Lone Star Beer. The voices of Buena Vista social club floating

quietly through the room. And let's not forget all of the vivid colors!

{My Homekeeping Past Time}

It's been a bit of an organization week around here. I've taken

the week void of burlesque meetings as an opportunity to get my

home ready for late spring, early summer life. One of my favorite

things in life is having a beautiful home and tending to it. Life

has been so utterly busy lately with shows, classes to teach,

meetings, travel, and so on that my home has fallen through the

cracks. I've also picked up more writing opportunities which

happily coincides very well with my homekeeping past time.

After all, a closet perfectly organized is marvelously satisfying.

Part of my love for home keeping comes partly from my love

of aesthetics and partly from my adoration of organization.

A petite breakdown:

Aesthetically Pleasing Desk

- The vintage milk glass lamp

- The cream box filled with inspirational tokens;

glitter, stationary, silver bows, and labels.

- The golden monogram paper weight

- The antique tall china cup used to corral pens

Lately Spring has been rather indecisive, reluctant to find

a temperature and stick to it. But that's been my joy this

spring, to layer clothing, almost like one does in the fall,

only with different textures and fabrics. I'm loving the

Spring 2011 collection from Tibi; the girlish dresses with

updated hemlines, the boxy yet playful shoulders, the soft

ruffles giving a sense of airiness. Each ensemble could easily

be layered with a light silk scarf, a delicate cotton sweater,

and an oversized canvas bag equipped with pair of flats for

the more casual spring cookout.

Spending the day gathering items for my "Decadent Picnic" shoot

tomorrow with Angela Morales. The location is at the mid-

century modern lakehouse belonging to my Godmother and it's

absolutely stunning. The magazine we are shooting for loves

a late 50's early 60's spirit so we are aiming for that gentle

spring cocktail photo set. It's a lovely day today, blustering

cool winds blowing branches of blooming fruit trees, perfect

for gathering pretty set pieces.

It's a great day for celebrating because last night I had

a fantastic meeting with Mandy Lauderdale. Her voice is

I have a new exciting project coming up soon, but for now, no work. It's time

for play and family. I love the colors of this weekend; the matt crisp sides of

robin's egg blue dyed eggs, the sugared texture of sunny peeps, the soft fur of

a peach spotted bunny, tangerine tulips sprouting out of a vintage vase, rosy

soft cotton gingham table clothes worn by the sun, mint green grass speckled

with shiny bright goodies. Beginning the weekend by visiting my nefew's new

little baby chicks, then it's off to the market to buy spring vegetables and a

glazed ham for Easter brunch!

I have such cause for celebration this week! I feel very honored

to have won the Friday Night Audience Choice Award at the

Texas Burlesque Festival as well as the Best Tease Award! I am

so very blessed to have the support of my audience and of the

fabulous burlesque legends, Tiffany Carter, Shannon doah, and

Annie Sprinkle. What are whirlwind of a weekend! To add to my

absolute joy I just completely my interview for Pin Curl Magazine.

What a beautiful life! Thank you to everyone for believing in me!

All of the performers of the festival were absolutely stunning and

inspired me to take my acts to new heights. Oh, and that Perle

Noire is a fabulous sight to see!

Premier Texas Burleque Festival Night

night, I'm happily anticipating tonight's show. This

is such a lovely & talent filled festival. And as you know...burlesque

Rehearsals began this week for the Texas Burlesque Festival &

I'm absolutely thrilled with our progress. It's a true pleasure to

be able to work with such talented and diligent ladies. After a

very hard week emotionally, "je suis prêt" to delve into my craft.

It will be luxrious to not only to perform, but to watch all of the

talented ladies coming from all over the nation.

On another note; I'm enjoying many gilded details lately; the

edges of a champagne bottle label, the golden frame of a work

of art, the caramel light created by an amber lamp shade interior,

champagne detailing on the side of a piano.

The hotel at which I am staying delights me in many ways and

these are three of them;

{1} Palatial large windows all open to a view of the most

baronial, magnificent, extravagant fountains.

{2} Lavish chandeliers sparkling throughout the day & night

{3} Splendidly crafted cocktails (I enjoyed the Sage Advice

made up of Tanqueray Gin, X-Rated Fusion Liqueur, Sage Simple

Syrpu, Lemon Juice, & Sage Leaf Garnish.)

Needless to say we've been savoring the sound of water gently

rushing, the creamy white bloom of magnolias, the scent of

honeysuckle in the nearby park. Husband and I have loved

ordering room service, crawling under feather duvets, & art

at the museums.

Today I'm styling the photo shoot for my article for She! Magazine.

Luckily, the article is about throwing a chic backyard BBQ party &

I happen to love backyards, BBQ, and parties! Firstly, going to get the

finishing touches items (spring flowers and cocktails makings) then it's

off to a stunning backyard in one of my favorite neighborhoods in Houston.

On the To Do List:

1. Purchase : flowers, vodka, basil, local beer,

ice, sea shells, raffia, ribbon,

galvanized trays.

2. Make cocktails, set up shoot &

photograph in a garden by the pool

3. Edit photos in this stunning hotel

4. Write fabulous article poolside

le bete noir & aggrandizement

Living in a hotel for a while has always been a quaint dream of mine, a dream I

will be living for a bit as I take care of my Pops as he receives chemo treatments.

Some might think it in poor taste to romanticize life when in reality life for us is

so hard. How can one possibly glamorize a life ridden with something so

horrific as 4th stage cancer? Yet I refuse the notion that we should wallow in

pain and self pity. Of course it's all very shocking. Of course it's all very

devastating. And of course we are all a little afraid. But what better to stave

away le "bete noir" & dolor than aggrandizement? I'm a firm believer in the

idea of counting one's blessings and currently a lot of our blessings are aesthetic.

This hotel is magnificent. It's marvelous to come through the turn style and

be greeted by a staff that knows my name. It's divine to awake to a view of

bright white water fountains, to a plate of fresh fruit and a cup of coffee that

tastes like Europe, to sun beams reflecting off the crystals of a chandelier. I

would be a fool to dismiss all of this in the name of proper sadness. Yes, I

prefer to always have a Showgirl attitude. Of course Showgirls cry, but we

try to at least do it with style.

The grasses have turned a stunning shade of green and there

are capacious amounts of voluminous blushing pink roses in

every neighborhood and on every boulevard. So naturally the

only thing my husband and I could do was to lay out a blanket

on the plush verdure and let our heads rest on feather pillows

and take a nap. Later I did some light spring cleaning and happily

selected more spring appropriate linens for the beds.

It's been glorious. I hope your weekend has been equally

a weekend filled with dashing cars, dapper gents, and delicious rockabilly music.

Words cannot express how delightful it is to have this one day of nothing but

relaxation after three weeks of traveling and performing. Tomorrow, I will be

right back at it, but today is a day for leisure. It's lovely to repose on the

balcony with refreshments and the latest issue of Vogue. It's so luxurious to

have this day just to basque in the sunlight beaming into the living room,

to water the gardenias, to prepare a loving meal with my darling husband.

the winter scarves still in the suitcase from Chicago, and

fit for the beach. I can't wait to have my toes snug in the sand.

Things are splendid in Chicago...so far it's been cocktails at the

Signature Lounge, magnificent cathedrals, glimpses of Chanel,

stunning views of the city skyline from the 95th floor, and delightful

speakeasies. It's been glorious to see Chicago through a champagne

glass, the city a surreal palace of fashion and jazz. I'm always thrilled

when the L train comes rushing overhead as it's a nostalgic icon of the

city. Last night...burlesque, seeing friend from other cities.

Mardi Gras show! Spent the morning rehearsing, packing, enjoying a lovely

I love this moment, the moment right before I leave, once everything is packed

and ready. I know what is coming...the windows rolled down, countryside, fresh

air, stops for coffee, and finally the Dallas skyline. I <3 it.

to keep in mind how blessed I am to have such fabulous careers.

But what are the equivalents to the variables in the equation? Because from the

outside it all looks rather boring, but when I break it down, I'm able to truely

recognize how lucky I am to be able to do what I do.

choreography < finding ways to express emotion through my body,

communicating in the most beautifully basic way.

costuming < working with the most luxurious fabrics and the most

opulent objects simply so they can be wrapped around my body.

It's couture of my very own.

rehearsal < a moment in time to simply better if not perfect myself

and/or my craft, to delve myself into what I love to do. And when

rehearsal is with others, I get to work on creating an energy that

we will collectively bring on stage. And laugh a lot.

meetings < Drink cocktails with the girls, dream about our goals,

discuss the future so we keep moving forward, helping each other to

be the best and want the best.

promotion < placing posters across media, basically saying, "I'm

proud of what I am a part of, and I hope you'll be there to share that

with me."

travling < Chicago, San Diego, Dallas, Los Angeles...not only do I

get to take beautiful road trips, but I get to jet set. I get to see lovely

places. Dreaming of soon going to....New York, Paris, London, San

Francisco.

All of it is supported by creative conversations, inspiration boards,

cocktails, reading, writing, singing, melodies, instruments, music,

literature, dance, and most of all.... fans.

As the month draws to a close and March begins, life is a dizzying array of

calender engagements, corporate rehearsals, feather fans arriving in packages,

festival events, recording sessions...

...but amidst all of this there are belted trousers, sunny days, leopard ensembles,

golden crusted breads, desks awaiting contemplative moments, pops of color,

and throws in which to wrap up at the end of the day.

These things are essential for purposes of sanity.

We had a fabulous show last night! The girls and I had a delightful time on &

off stage. It's always so thrilling to have a fabulous show, an enthusiastic audience,

and a decadent party backstage.

I awoke this morning to find that I'm still covered in glitter.

Time for a bridal shower brunch with old friends, a perfect event for such a

hazy day, reminiscent of old Dior editorials. Time to exchange glitter for brunch ,

stockings for conversation, a gown for a sweet day dress, and cocktails for

warm cups of coffee.

This collection made me cry the first time I

saw it.

I'm returning to the studio today as well as choreographing

burlesque numbers, rhinestoning costumes, and other work

related activites. I'd like all of these outfits to wear for my

"work days" please.

Sundays seem always to be wrapped in grace. Sunday mornings have softer edges and sweeter sounds. The elegance of Sunday comes from ease, as if the light clouds have steeped the air and made it more refined. Sunday morning's sounds are more delicate; church bells languidly ringing, magazine pages listlessly rustling, spoons tinkling against the side of coffee cups. This day will be more serene than the rest....the morning spent out on a terrace, watching the pollen gradually fall to the grass, the lemon trumpet vine in cadence with the wind.

The past week has been extraordinary! I've begun a new project,

causing me to go into the recording studio to record songs. C'est

merveilleux to find myself in a new creative realm, challenging as

it is, it's a fantastic challenge. Today I have a flurry of activity to

do; picking up promotional posters from the printer, lunch with a

dear friend, writing, then rehearsal with the girls.

work day plain & simple

It's a work day, plain & simple. This week has been filled with

designing posters, taking posters to the printer, designing mail-

out stickers, going to the post office, mailing CDs, choosing song

choices for all of my upcoming shows, selecting costume pieces

for said shows, and getting prepared for the next weeks to come.

This weekend is luckily going to be relaxing and fun as our dear

family French friend, Fred de Fred, is coming to town! I will

finally be able to use some of the French I worked so hard to get

a degree in. Better brush up!

It's been an extremely long work day for me and I'm exhausted.

I've had a nice long bath, a wonderful time spent laughing with

my husband, and a warm cup of milky hot chocolate.

Series: Homes: 1870 coach house {equestrian chic}

Equestrian homes are undoubtedly charming. They make use of plush smooth leathers,

rustic woodgrains, horse head book ends, and equestrian award ribbons. What I love

about this house is that it is unabashedly equine. It is unafraid to have an abundance

of equestrian themed decor and to be apologetically WASP-y. I love the Hermes orange

touches...books, blankets, bags, ribbons. The plaid bag, ready for a day out at the market.

The saddle and boots patiently awaiting the afternoon ride. The bar provides the perfect

afternoon cocktail, an amperatif to drink in front of the fire.

Things I love: plaid cuffed wellingtons, big heavy door, barn like hinges, blankets on

the book shelf, the boot on the desk "leg,"the King Charles Spaniel on the plaid throw,

the antlers on the silver platter, & the think gilded framed horses above the bar.

As you might have noticed after my blog post last Friday, I seem to be on a lilac, pink,
and mauve kick. Perhaps it's the anticipation of Valentine's Day, or the desire to bridge
the gap between winter and fall. It's been extraordinarily cold for Texas this week &the
dreary weather arrived just after a week of gloriously sunny days. Needless to say, we
were all unprepared.

I love when Friday arrives! Though I find it awfully difficult to feel

motivated to do any of the things on my to do list on Fridays. Maybe

it's from having no school on Fridays in college. Or maybe it's because

I normally have a show or a wedding to do on Fridays. I'm just not used

to doing anything but fin things on Fridays. Either way I

simply adore Fridays because:

a stately home office

I've been doing extensive research on what I would

like my office to look like as my husband and I have

decided to turn the second bedroom into a home

office. An office is a delicate space, requiring a lot

of thinking as it must house many different kinds of

things. This makes home offices to me seem quite

cluttered. Printers, paperwork, bills, post-its, pens,

computers, books, stationary, stamps, files, and

magazines. All of this is enough to make an office

quickly go from elegant to chaotic. On top of the

standard office objects, this room needs to neatly

organize my burlesque, sewing, and craft materials.

Additionally, my husband is a musician and a

student so enter the guitars and binders.

I've begun to write a list of the areas needed

and how to address them stylishly. I find it

almost impossible to happily work in an even

vaguely cluttered work space. I want the final

space to be:

elegant

functional

stylish

calming

organized

Essentially for me that means things need to be

hidden. I think the success of the rooms I've

posted above is that they have details one would

ordinarily find in a bedroom or living room;

marvelously draped curtains, gilded trays,

serene candles, fluffed pillows, framed pictures,

and of course fresh flowers!
